Final Project Proposal

Project Theme:
Humanity-Based Games

Robot Name:
Guiding an Old Lady to the Market (GOLEM) ver. 2

Objectives:

1)  To introduce the concept of sensor such as light sensor, ultrasonic sensor, sound sensor and touch sensor in a simple robot that can detects dark line, high decibel sound wave, and removing objects.

2)  To make a teaching aid that can guide student to learn the topic.

3)  To promote the fundamental principles of robotics technologies and computer systems in school environment.

4)  To give knowledge of technology, building materials and electronic component that using Lego’s product.

5)  To promotes creative and innovative thinking while generating ideas and encourage problem solving skills if occur any difficulties.

Problem Statement:

Young student can easily getting bored with the same pattern of learning. Therefore, project-based learning will help them to enjoy the lesson besides developing creative idea especially in Living Skills. In order to generate the creative ideas, teacher should show examples to stimulate their thinking.

Thus, we develop a simple robot and student can imagine how to run the robot by using software programming. This robot is using three sensors as input for the robot to responding with it environment. We try to provide the sensor as much as we can so that we can promote student’s high thinking skills to solve the problem.

Concept:

GOLEM portrays as an old lady who suffered by eyes disorder and had a very severe sight due to it old age. Every morning, she went to the nearest market to restock the supplies. But, due to the poor sight, she needs help from us to guide her to the right path. But still, she has a very keen ear to listen (the sound sensor) to responds to.

So, our role is to make sure she passes the correct path without stray to the dead end path by blow the whistle loudly (to turn right) or quietly (to turn left) until she arrives at the market. Then, we help her to return home in the same way. During the trail, there will be some obstacles that blocking GOLEM to cross. She can eliminate any obstacles with her walking stick within a single strike (motor A).
