LEGO Digital Designer

We had just found MINDSTORM Lego Designer program in which suitable to be used to create our own robot design. The program includes all components as provided in Lego Mindstorm Box 9797, but no accessories are included. Through this program, we are able to design and modify our project robot, even outside of the lab and without the Lego box. We realize that this program help us much since we only have one day per week to using and developing our project in the lab.

This is the build mode page that show in a grid tiles. To assemble the robot, we just need to open the brick palette window (on the left-hand side) and drag the component on the tiles. All of the core and important components such as the NXT, sensors, connector pegs, axles and many more available in this window. The model image can be captured in diorama scene or in plain white background in just a single button. Below is some of our project model that use this program;

Our Decision..Finally
During today class, after considering the assignment criteria and suitability with primary school children, we finally had decided the following ideas as our final project:
1. The Dog
2. Table Challenge
3. Maze Robot Game
4. Tortoise
5. Catapult
The reasons of choosing Maze Robot as our project are as following:
a) The Maze Robot is not too difficult for student to design, but not too simple as Table Challenge. We decide to ensure that our project is promoting problem solving skills appropriate with primary school students.
b) The project should have clear objective and fun (implementing game element is part of the project theme).

What should we do in MDZ392
This is our second task of the unit MDZ392 Educational Computing Environment. The task is:
'require us to build an example student project with the robotics equipment including all necessary programming. The project must be set within the context of a classroom activity and you need to explain how it fits into the curriculum and what the outcomes of this project are in terms of learning for the students. Teacher notes sufficient for another teacher to use should also be included as part of this documentation. As part of the construction phase and programming phase we must also keep a problem solving log and develop a short video (max. 2 mins) of the final product which must be uploaded to the blackboard site.'
So, through this blog, we will documenting every activities of our robot project in dates sequence with additional resources for further reference. This blog is our dairy of the progress until the final project, or perhaps we will continue developing with other project.
